This decision is already diminishing access to critical care for many of Australia’s most vulnerable people, while placing unsustainable pressure on physiotherapists delivering support under the NDIS.

The APA is working alongside other allied health organisations across Australia to urge the government to address this decision and prevent a workforce crisis that will continue to threaten the availability of services to NDIS participants.

The APA calls on the NDIA to immediately reverse the pricing changes and engage in meaningful consultation with the sector.

I am a physiotherapist and a member of your constituency. I am writing to express my deep concern about the recent changes to National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) pricing, which have now come into effect.

These changes, which reduce price limits and travel funding for physiotherapy supports, are already putting services at risk. Under the new pricing framework, delivering physiotherapy under the NDIS is financially unsustainable for many providers. Without urgent action, the physiotherapy workforce supporting the scheme will erode.

Thousands of participants will be left without the care they need. The consequences of this are already being felt. Some services are being withdrawn, waitlists are growing, and vulnerable Australians are being left behind.

What is especially troubling is that the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) has acknowledged it used flawed data to justify these pricing changes, yet still chose to proceed.

The Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA), my representative body, has provided robust and credible evidence that directly challenges the assumptions underpinning the decision. The disregard for this evidence, and for the voices of clinicians and participants alike, is unacceptable.

The outcome places participants, particularly those with complex disability needs, at risk of functional decline, preventable hospital admissions, and poorer long-term outcomes. It also undermines choice and control, which are core principles of the NDIS.

I urge the federal government to immediately reconsider and reverse this decision. As my local representative, I implore you to raise these concerns with Minister Mark Butler and Senator Jenny McAllister. The NDIA must engage meaningfully with the physiotherapy community and restore pricing that supports sustainable, evidence-based care for NDIS participants.

This is not just a matter of economics. It is a matter of equity, safety and human dignity.
